In the fall of 2019 A Greater Applegate (AGA) was awarded two distinct grants that will provide support for community building projects in the upcoming year. These projects include AGA’s 2020 Community Visioning program and the completion of the Cheryl Garcia Art Walk in Cantrall Buckley Park. The Community Visioning program will be in part supported by a grant from the Oregon Community Foundation’s Betty Lou Roberts and Evelyn Nye Funds in the amount of $29,000. The completion of the Cheryl Garcia Art Walk will be supported in part by a $1000 grant from the Jackson County Cultural Coalition funded by the Oregon Cultural Trust, investing in Oregon’s arts, humanities and heritage. The grants were awarded to support projects that best exemplify the important work that AGA is undertaking and the positive impact it could have on the Applegate Valley community. Both projects are ongoing and in various stages of development.
The 2020 Community Visioning program is the backbone of all AGA’s work. This program aims to engage Applegate Valley residents of all ages, gender, race, education, socioeconomic status, political and religious affiliation, as well as nonprofit groups, business owners and youths to identify priorities and move ideas forward in the Applegate Valley. To do this AGA is hosting 11+ neighborhood meetings across the Valley and actively building up and motivating a business network and a nonprofit network. The projects that AGA takes on are directly derived from the information received from the individuals who engage in these programs.
The Cheryl Garcia Art Walk is a shining example of the type of projects that AGA supports. AGA aims to engage in projects that support local artists, makers, growers, business owners and group leaders in a way that reflects the values of the community as a whole. The art walk is in its final stages of completion, to be finished in 2020, and spotlights the talents of local artist Cheryl Garcia while also showcasing and educating about the natural uniqueness of the region.
AGA is humbled to receive such generous funding from esteemed foundations such as Jackson County Cultural Coalition and Oregon Community Foundation. AGA works everyday to build new relationships with a diverse array of philanthropic organizations both local and statewide to ensure access to resources exists when various community focused projects arise!
