Welcome to the Applegate List

This free email list is a service for the local community of Applegate Valley, Oregon. This service was created by and is run by a group of volunteer community folks, your fellow Applegate neighbors. Please read through this page and sign up below.

Applegate List connects locals where subscribers can send emails to be broadcast to the community for:

  1. Services and help needed
  2. Services offered
  3. Selling/buying/gifting/trading local products
  4. Neighborhood events
  5. Connecting with local volunteer opportunities

This list is intended to serve the Applegate Valley region of Southern Oregon. If you live in the Applegate Valley and would like to join the list, please sign up below. All subscribers will be reviewed and once accepted, you will be notified via email by the administrator.

Humbly, Applegate List is filling the shoes as a successor to the now offline Jo’s List that many of us had come to know and love. We hold big gratitude to Jo for providing a valuable service to our community for so many years!

Code of Conduct

The following guidelines help keep Applegate List a safe space for all community members. All members of Applegate List are expected to follow our Code of Conduct:

  • Respect your fellow community members. We are all diverse in our beliefs and values. Respectful dialog helps us maintain a peaceful, cooperative, safe digital space for our community.
  • We have a zero harassment policy. No harassment or hateful conduct is allowed. This includes discrimination, hate speech, bullying, or targeted attacks.
  • No extended discussions about politics, religion or other beliefs. Keep such announcements to the facts. In general, please limit your opinions and respect that we are a diverse community with diverse beliefs and opinions.
  • Respect everyone’s personal privacy. For example, don’t share private photos, emails, addresses, phone numbers or other information without permission.
  • Respect the community’s email inboxes. Use “reply all” sparingly. Replying directly to the sender of any email announcement is usually sufficient.

How to Post An Announcement

To broadcast a new post to the community, send your email to list@applegateconnect.org.

Be sure to include a specific, descriptive and relevant subject line. For everyone’s benefit, please avoid generic subjects like “Announcement”, “Please post this” or “Posting for my friend”.

Moderation

All emails are reviewed by the list moderators on a regular basis. If your email is approved it will be sent to all members of Applegate List.

We rely on community volunteers and the moderation schedule is currently 5 days a week, Monday-Friday (until 5pm). The moderation schedule is subject to change based on holidays, personal vacation time, family commitments, etc. Whenever possible, moderators will cover for each other’s absence.

We understand how valuable this service is to our community and will do our best to keep emails flowing on a timely basis. Still, we ask for your patience when sending your emails as it might take up to a few days before approved emails are posted to the list.

Digests

Often there will be a relatively large number of daily emails sent to members’ inboxes. If you prefer, you may opt to receive emails in a digest format. This will group emails into a single digest email of up to 25 messages. If more than 25 emails are sent to the Applegate List in one day, you may receive several digests each day.

If you are already subscribed to Applegate List and wish to change your subscription to digest format, email moderator@applegateconnect.org from your subscribed email address and ask to change your subscription to digest.

New members may opt for digest format when subscribing to the list using the form below under How to Join.

Website Portal

Applegate list uses Google Groups to provide this email service to our community. Through the Google Groups platform, Gmail users have the option of visiting the list’s web portal. You can access Applegate List in your groups here. You’ll need to be signed into the same Gmail account that is subscribed to the list. Non-Gmail members will still receive new list emails in their inbox, but won’t be able to access the web portal.

The web portal allows Gmail members to:

  • Browse list emails, including historical archives.
  • Reply to list emails directly.
  • Update subscription preferences. Choose to receive each email individually, as a daily digest or as summaries (abridged). Gmail members can also temporarily turn off receiving emails.

Support

If you need help or have questions about the Applegate List service, send your request to: moderator@applegateconnect.org

Do not send email submissions intended for the list to the above support email address. All email submissions sent to the support email will be promptly deleted.

Unsubscribing

After joining Applegate List, you may unsubscribe at any time. If someone signed you up by mistake, you may unsubscribe.

To unsubscribe look for the link in the bottom of any email sent from the Applegate List. Once you click on the link and confirm your unsubscription you will be unsubscribed from the service. Please allow up to 24 hours for the system to process your request.

Terms and Conditions

By joining Little Applegate List you agree to the following terms and conditions:

  • You agree to follow the Code of Conduct.
  • Emails are moderated based on volunteers’ schedules. Delays between email submission and approvals or denials may happen depending on any number of reasons. We make no guarantees on email delivery time.
  • We reserve the right to remove anyone from the list with or without warning, for any reason that we deem serves the greater good of the community.
  • We reserve the right to delete/deny any email submissions, including emails that do not follow the Code of Conduct.
  • We reserve the right to delete/deny emails that replied to all, including the entire list, if we feel the reply is not relevant to the entire community.
  • We reserve the right to decline any request to join this private email list, for any reason.

How to Join

To join the Applegate List, fill out the submission form below. Your request to join will be reviewed by our volunteer team, which can take up to a week to review. Thank you for your patience!
