Our next community conducted prescribed burn will be held on May 2nd, 2021.
The forecast cool wet weather this weekend will open another safe burn window for us.
This burn will take place on Rich Fairbank’s property,
9651 Sterling Creek Rd
Jacksonville, OR 97530
We are asking people to arrive by 11AM for our briefing, followed by a brief tour of the unit. Our test fire is scheduled for 12:00 and the full ignition should take 1-2 hours.
Folks who are interested in participating should wear cotton clothing (jeans are great), heavy work boots or shoes, safety or sun glasses, leather gloves, and bring a favorite hand tool if they have one. Please bring a sack lunch/snacks and water as well.
Rich has done extensive fuel reduction and ecological restoration work on his property. He conducts small under burns regularly to reduce surface fuels and restore a more natural fire return interval. Similarly to our last burn, this one will be small in scale, however we will be increasing the complexity by primarily using trails and hand lines as our control lines, rather than roads. We will also be installing a hose lay along the up slope portions of the unit to aid in control and mop up. As before, we have a burn plan, a qualified burn boss and firing boss, multiple fire engines and fire professionals leading the burn, and for this project we have a permit from ODF to burn in fire season. This will be another wonderful opportunity for interested community members to observe a controlled burn, learn about how they are conducted safely and effectively, and participate in our growing prescribed burn association.
Due to current COVID-19 mandates we will ask participants to maintain 6′ social distancing.
Please share this information with any interested parties, and let me know if you plan on attending,
Thanks, I hope to see you all there!
