‘A Week in Jacksaphine Count(r)y’ will showcase Applegate Valley highlights.

What is the Applegate Valley? A 500-square mile watershed defined by the Applegate River? A wine region with over 22 tasting rooms to explore? A world-class paragliding destination? A hiking paradise with routes that include an Oregon Signature Trail? A refuge for artists, farmers, and homesteaders?

It’s all of these things and more! Come celebrate the beauty, flavors and diversity of the Applegate Valley during Jacksaphine Count(r)y Week, a run of events from Sept 21st—29th. The series draws its whimsical name from the valley’s straddle across both Jackson and Josephine Counties.

The week will showcase some of the valley’s best offerings, including local food and wine, as well as area musicians, artists, farmers, paraglider pilots and community members. The festivities will take place at some of the valley’s most scenic venues, including LongSword Vineyard, Yale Creek Ranch, Wooldridge Winery, Pacifica, and Provolt Recreation Area.

The event is a fundraiser for A Greater Applegate, whose mission is to sustain and enhance local connections that promote the environmental, economic, and social vitality of the Applegate Valley.

Co-Executive Director Megan Fehrman says, “A Greater Applegate is excited to showcase this series of fun events designed to celebrate the beauty, flavors, and diversity of this special place… and all the great work that is happening to make the rural Applegate Valley more vibrant and resilient.”

Not familiar with the movie? Here’s the summary:

Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.
