National Trails Day Celebration at Wolf Gap!

June 1 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

Free

Come celebrate and hike five miles of new trails connecting the Wolf Gap TH with the Sterling Mine Ditch Trail above Tunnel Ridge TH and near Wolf Gulch. The new trails, called the Upper Bear Gulch and West Bear Gulch Trails, will officially become part of the Sterling Mine Ditch Trail System. They pass through grassy slopes, oak woodlands, and mixed conifer forest. Event begins at 9:00 at the Wolf Gap TH about 3 miles above Sterling Creek Road off Armstong-Deming Road. The Siskiyou Upland Trails Association, along with the BLM and representatives from Oregon Parks and Recreation Department Recreational Trails Program and REI Co-op will be on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony. We’ll have trailhead displays on natural history, trail design and maintenance, refreshments, and a self-guided tour of the area’s natural history. Hiking options from the Wolf Gap TH include a 2-mile out-and-back to a viewpoint overlooking the Little Applegate Valley (which includes a mountain profile sign), a 5-mile loop, or a 10 mile loop that takes in four miles of the SMDT from Tunnel Ridge to Wolf Gulch. Dress for sun, bring water and sturdy walking shoes or hiking boots. The new trails are designed for foot traffic only.
