DESCRIPTION:Poetry for the People\, a project started by Lisa Baldwin (Josephine County) and Seth Kaplan (Jackson County)\, has their culminating celebration of a six-month series of readings and open mic sharing of poems meant to defend our democracy\, encourage civil discussion\, and bring us together in community. Three events have taken place in Jackson County and three in Josephine County. It is fitting to hold this final gathering in the Applegate during the Jacksaphine Count(r)y Fair on Saturday\, Sept. 27th\, 3 – 5pm\, at Red Lily Vineyard. \nAs our growing community of folks who appreciate how poetry can connect us\, bring us understanding\, and boost our spirits in troubling times\, we invite you to join us as we gather to celebrate our successful run. She has a deep love for anything botanical and has been working as a professional botanist and plant ecologist in southern Oregon forests for 20 years. She has a special interest in native seed propagation and collecting. Her early love of plants was expressed through her extensive work in organic farming\, nursery work\, and seed growing with Seeds of Change and on her own farm in New Mexico.\n\n\n\nRichard Callagan is a southern Oregon native and co-founder of Siskiyou BioSurvey\, an ecological and botanical consulting service. He has been conducting botanical surveys for 39 years and is intimately familiar with the vascular\, bryophyte\, lichen and fungi species of Oregon. Previously\, he worked in other forest-related jobs including reforestation\, trail construction\, thinning\, and stocking surveys. Richard has a wealth of knowledge from botany\, history\, ecology and wildlife biology that he is looking forward to sharing with you.
