We will spend time together\, connecting with nature and each other. Before our party\, please spend some time on a treasure hunt for small items to be used for your art: flowers\, leaves\, stones\, sticks\, feathers\, shells\, pinecones\, etc. and anything you love from home. Please bring 20 or more of one small same item. But\, when you find something good\, please be sure to leave more than you take. We will also have items to share and a kit to take home so you may continue to practice your art. We will be sitting on the grass. DESCRIPTION:This course will inform students on the basics of Medicare as well as more specific and current topics in Medicare that are locally relevant. Through lecture and interactive discussion\, a highly trained Medicare counselor will provide valuable information to ensure that attendees and their loved ones are getting the most out of their Medicare coverage. Topics include Medicare Parts A and B; Medicare Advantage vs. Medigap; the prescription drug plan (Part D); annual re-evaluation of plans; tips for finding a provider; coverage limitations or exclusions; and local resources for assistance.\nAbout the Presenter:\nBecky Foster is a volunteer with the local Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance (SHIBA) program\, counseling Medicare beneficiaries on how to navigate this complex health program. Becky previously provided similar services to Medicare beneficiaries through California?s Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program in San Francisco for 6 years. Professionally\, she advises life science and medical technology companies on how to make their products accessible to patients by ensuring adequate insurance coverage\, which requires deep understanding of how Medicare makes decisions on what to cover.\nBecky has an undergraduate degree from Harvard College and a Master?s in Public Heath with a focus on health policy and administration from the University of California\, Berkeley. She will be using\nmaterial provided by SHIBA\, as well as resources she has acquired over her career.

Begin with a log line\, brainstorm an outline and considering how to add the components of any page-turner: compelling character\, the gradual reveal and a deeper understanding of story arc for a dramatic ending that lingers.\npresented twice at the Creative Writing and Innovative Pedagogies (CWIPs) Conference\, was a Novel-in-Progress Semi-finalist at the Faulkner Society Creative Writing Competition\, and Scholar-in-Residence of the Hypatia-in-the-Woods Writer?s Award. SUMMARY:Robbie Collins–The Man who Saved Jacksonville’s Historic District
DESCRIPTION:Robertson “Robbie” Collins (1921 – 2003): The man who saved Jacksonville. Larry Smith will share the riveting story of Robbie Collins’ efforts to preserve Jacksonville’s history by founding the Jacksonville Booster’s Club and the preservation of the historic U.S. Hotel. It was through Robbie’s effort that Jacksonville was declared a National Historic Landmark City in 1966\, leading to the preservation of over 100 commercial and residential buildings in town.\nSession will be led by Larry Smith\, Jacksonville’s unofficial town historian. Larry recently did a shorter version of this presentation for the Boosters Club\, and has researched Robbie Collins’ life extensively.

Afterward attendees will experience a 60-minute Sound Session Immersion with Tibetan bowls\, crystal bowls\, and a Moon gong. DESCRIPTION:Robertson Robbie Collins (1921 – 2003): The man who saved Jacksonville. Larry Smith will share the riveting story of Robbie Collins efforts to preserve Jacksonville’s history by founding the Jacksonville Booster’s Club and the preservation of the historic U.S. Hotel. It was through Robbie’s effort that Jacksonville was declared a National Historic Landmark City in 1966\, leading to the preservation of over 100 commercial and residential buildings in town. \nSession will be led by Larry Smith\, Jacksonville’s unofficial town historian. Larry recently did a shorter version of this presentation for the Boosters Club\, and has researched Robbie Collins’ life extensively.

Perfect for families\, students\, gardeners\, and the environmentally curious! \nKristina loves talking about our native bees\, butterflies\, flies\, wasps\, beetles\, and hummingbirds\, and the plants and habitats that best support them. She also loves connecting to people who shares the dream that everyone’s yard or landscape will include a little or a lot of pollinator habitat\, even if it’s just a pot of nepeta (catmint) on the porch. Kristina led the effort for Ashland to become the fifth Bee City USA in 2015\, and continues to serve on the subcommittee. She also serves on the board of Beyond Toxics\, is a certified Jackson County Master Gardener\, and is a member of the Native Plant Society of Oregon. Kristina is honored to serve as president of Pollinator Project Rogue Valley.

SUMMARY:A World without Polio: Odyssey to India
DESCRIPTION:In 2020\, Sherry Neuman traveled to India with a Rotary project to provide immunizations for children. The trip included visits to the Taj Mahal\, a nature reserve\, the Khajuraho temples and other Rotary projects. This presentation offers an opportunity to achieve a greater understanding of this interesting and complex country. \nSherry Neuman is an infectious disease doctor whose career involved direct patient care in clinical settings with the Indian Health Service in Montana\, VA hospitals in Phoenix and Reno as well as teaching medical residents at the University of Nevada. She moved to Jacksonville in 2010 and is an active volunteer with multiple organizations. She continues to find satisfaction in using her medical training in service projects. In addition\, she is an avid traveler on both domestic and international trips.

Please check your email prior to attending our classes. \n\nThis instructional class will begin by explaining to participants what sound healing is\, why it is effective\, then allow each person attending to experience tuning fork and crystal bowl vibrations near them as Claudia will go around to each person wishing this experience. She will demonstrate the calming effects of Koshi chimes\, Tibetan chakra bowls\, alchemy crystal bowls and a Paiste moon gong showing the correct way to play these sacred instruments. Claudia will bring books on sound healing written by experts for additional reading. This class will conclude with a 20 minute demo of a group sound event. \nPresenter: Claudia Ingraham \n“Claudia Ingraham has been practicing Sound Healing for 13 years now\, beginning in Denver\, Colorado and continued after moving to Jacksonville\, Oregon in 2014. She began this journey after completing a training in advanced sound healing techniques in the traditional Himalayan method with Suren Shrestha in Boulder\, Colorado while finishing her yoga teacher training. Afterwards she organized yoga/ sound healing retreats at Hot Springs locations for 4 years while in Denver. She has completed trainings in Biofield Tuning\, studied with musician Leigh Ann Phillips\, Matthew Kocel and a Gong Bath Intensive training with Richard Rudis. \nClaudia connects deeply with her intuition when she plays for people and loves seeing and hearing about positive and sometimes profound results experienced. This class will allow participants to understand what sound healing is\, experience various sound instruments and learn what sound tools they can use daily to enhance their lives.”

Jerry will demonstrate many varied methods for sharpening knives and also offer tips on sharpening tools for woodworking.  Please bring a non-serrated\, dull knife for a hands-on experience with this new skill. \nPresenter: Jerry Pendzick \n“As a youngster\, I was taught the basics of woodworking with my father. Growing up\, I had little time for the craft\, as my time in the military didn’t allow for much woodworking. I began working with wood in 1986\, and had some success building tables\, desks\, and stools. In 1996 I decided that I wanted formal training\, so I enrolled in Palomar College’s Cabinet and Furniture Technology Program. Completing the program in 2000\, I worked as a Teaching Assistant for the next 16 years. I was able to master many different woodworking skills\, including tool sharpening. I specialized in construction of Early American Chairs.”
