DESCRIPTION:Josephine County Farm Collective is excited to present a Companion planting workshop.  Companion Planting is a gardening strategy that mimics the plant relationships found in nature to utilize garden space more efficiently\, and manage pests\, disease and weeds in a way you may have never thought possible. In this workshop\, we will deep dive into the specifics of companion planting theory\, observe naturally occurring companion guilds\, and witness companion planting being used on the farm to maximize limited high-tunnel production areas. Participants will leave the farm with a basic working knowledge of how to incorporate companion planting into their own garden system. The first 15 attendees to arrive will receive a brand new copy of Planting Partners book for reference. \nJosh Cohen has owned and operated Barking Moon Farm for almost 20 years\, and is passionate about growing nutritious\, delicious and visually stunning certified organic vegetables for the hungry members of his community.

DESCRIPTION:Starting your garden from seed saves money\, reduces risk of pest problems\, and provides fresh vegetables and herbs for your every day meals. Learn a few basics of how to propagate seed for your garden using simple greenhouse options for backyard gardens. Instruction will include soil options\, seed needs\, and factors important to control when growing in protected culture (greenhouses). We will demonstrate several greenhouse options ranging from a simple heat mat with thermostat to an outdoor greenhouse. This course is for home gardening only – not commercial growers. Only passive greenhouse features will be covered. All attendees will leave with 10-12 packets of seeds to start their own garden.
