DESCRIPTION:The youth of the world are those who will suffer most if we fail to address the climate crisis. Our failure to address this crisis is why many young people are angry and others are simply disillusioned.  Some\, meanwhile\, have joined forces through the Eugene-based nonprofit law firm\, Our Children’s Trust (OCT)\, to take legal action. This action takes the form of lawsuits against federal and state governments for their actions violating the youth’s constitutional rights and harming both young people and the natural resources they hold in trust for future generations. \nYOUTH v GOV is an independent film by acclaimed Director Christi Cooper\, Barrelmaker Productions and Vulcan Productions. It tells the story of the groundbreaking youth climate case\, Juliana v. United States. It is available for viewing via Netflix. Attendees are encouraged to watch it before the program. \nSOCAN’s August monthly meeting will feature a ZOOM presentation by Our Children’s Trust Senior Litigating Attorney Andrea Rodgers presenting an update on where the legal cases filed by Our Children’s Trust stand\, and what the future seems to hold. Everything else is – FREE! \n  \nIn addition to Hanley House tours\, the first Thursday each month you’ll have the opportunity to tour the Farm’s “old barn.” Built in 1845\, it’s one of the oldest in Oregon that’s still standing. In the early 1900s\, Alice Hanley had the barn moved from the front of the farm to the back\, by Jackson Creek. Made of huge hand-hewn beams with pegs\, the barn was built as a stock and threshing barn. When the original second-story hayloft and center threshing floor were removed\, a hayfork system was installed. Wagons were driven into the barn and grains\, still on their stalks\, were spread on the floor. The heads were knocked from the stalks by beating with a flail. \nAnd on third Thursdays\, be sure to take a wagon ride. Great fun for the entire family! \n  \n
