SUMMARY:Beginning Farmer Training for Veterans
DESCRIPTION:Growing Veteran Agripreneurs (GVA) is a beginning farmer training program for veterans interested in pursuing small-scale agriculture. Over the course of a season\, participants are exposed to all aspects of sustainable\, small-scale farming through hands-on field experience at SOREC in Central point\, farm tours\, online classes\, and one-on-one mentoring. Topics include: production propagation\, soil management\, farm business planning\, irrigation\, drought mitigation\, tools and equipment\, integrated pest management\, marketing\, seed saving and small livestock operations. Class times vary based on tour locations and daylight hours but will be on Wednesdays starting at or after 3pm. Registration Deadline is April 28th. All classes have an emphasis on how each building project can inform the next one you are working on as each will cover the basic principles of carpentry\, safety\, and how to understand and use all the necessary tools. \nCost is $250 for a weekend. The winegrapes have been picked\, pressed\, and barrelled\, and the winemakers have time to chat. \nPick your starting location\, and let yourself be lured from one winery to the next. Each will offer an appetizer and wine for tasting. You’ll even get to meet some of the latest releases! Uncorked is a great opportunity to stock up on wine for upcoming holiday gifts\, or parties. \nTickets are $59 each and include a commemorative Wine Trail wine glass. \nBonus: Designated drivers don’t need to purchase a ticket and may sample the food. The event will conclude at 4pm\, however many tasting rooms will remain open until 5pm. \nPlease Note – In an effort to conserve natural resources no tickets are mailed. You have your purchase confirmation as a receipt. Simply arrive at the location you’ve chosen\, your name will be on a list to check in and start your tour. For those who have groups who want to start at the same location\, please purchase your tickets early and make sure everyone chooses the same start location.
