DESCRIPTION:CC’s Core Commitments: (i.e.\, why do we exist?)\nExalt:\nThe church exists as a worshipping community that exalts the Lord. Since He chose and predestined sons unto Himself in Christ to the praise of the glory of His grace\, this Body of believers seeks to render supreme worth to Him who called us into fellowship with Himself and His people. We strive to be God-centered in what we believe and how we behave (see Eph 1; Jn 4; Rev 4\, 5\, 19\, 21-22). \nEquip:\nCentral to our gathering together is the expositional preaching and teaching of the Word\, that which is inspired\, inerrant\, authoritative\, and sufficient. Since God’s Word and His Spirit are the means God uses to adequately equip His Church for lives of godliness\, we seek to explain what God means by what He has said\, and train others to diligently study and teach the Bible (see Eph 4:11-12; 2 Tim 3:16-17; 4:2; 2 Pet 1:3-4). \nEvangelize:\nThe Church’s central mission\, which we cannot do in heaven\, is evangelize the world\, offering them hope for this life and eternity as they turn from their sin and place their faith in Christ alone. We announce that Christ has made redemption through His blood and that by repentance and faith you can receive remission of sins and entrance into the kingdom of God (see Matt 28:18-20; Acts 1:8; Rom 1:16-17; 10:11-15). \nYou may be wondering what a person should look for in a church. Rather than the idea of “what do I want to see in a church” perhaps we should be considering what God’s wants in His Church. We believe that the Lord has not been silent on the matter. In fact\, we believe their as several distinguishing marks of church health that the Word of God addresses. DESCRIPTION:Featured speakers: Flavia Franco of Southern Oregon Food Solutions\, Jeanette Hardison of the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition\, and Ellie Cosgrove of Rogue Valley Farm 2 School\nIn 2022\, the U.S. department of Agriculture stated: “Food loss and waste … exacerbates the climate change crisis with its significant GHG footprint. Production\, transportation\, and handling of food generate significant carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions\, and when food ends up in landfills\, it generates methane\, [which is] an even more potent greenhouse gas.” \nA 2021 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency report concluded that “each year\, U.S. food loss and waste embodies 170 million metric tons of carbon dioxide greenhouse gas emissions– equal to the annual CO2 emissions of 42 coal-fired power plants.” This doesn’t even take landfill methane into account. \nTo learn more about food waste and what we can do to address it\, join Southern Oregon Climate Action Now (SOCAN) at their March 28th General Meeting online from 6:00 to 7:00pm. SUMMARY:Salem 2023: What's up? (Socan Monthly Meeting - In person)
DESCRIPTION:The April SOCAN General meeting – our first in-person meeting since the COVID crisis – will feature members of the SOCAN Federal and State project team reporting on which proposals are alive\, which are not\, and what climate conscious Oregonians can do to help those proposals that deserve our support. \nAfter a hard-fought race for Governor in 2022\, and a campaign in which she highlighted support for climate action\, Tina Kotek was triumphant against two candidates who both campaigned against climate action. Although the climate crisis is non-partisan\, the Democratic Party as a whole embraced climate action while the opposition campaigned against it. The 2023 Legislative session in Salem reflects this dichotomy. By late April\, we will know which proposals have a chance for passage and which have none; we will know by this meeting which proposals are moving and could use rural Oregonian help\, and which are not.
