Since He chose and predestined sons unto Himself in Christ to the praise of the glory of His grace\, this Body of believers seeks to render supreme worth to Him who called us into fellowship with Himself and His people. We strive to be God-centered in what we believe and how we behave (see Eph 1; Jn 4; Rev 4\, 5\, 19\, 21-22). \nEquip:\nCentral to our gathering together is the expositional preaching and teaching of the Word\, that which is inspired\, inerrant\, authoritative\, and sufficient. Since God’s Word and His Spirit are the means God uses to adequately equip His Church for lives of godliness\, we seek to explain what God means by what He has said\, and train others to diligently study and teach the Bible (see Eph 4:11-12; 2 Tim 3:16-17; 4:2; 2 Pet 1:3-4). \nEvangelize:\nThe Church’s central mission\, which we cannot do in heaven\, is evangelize the world\, offering them hope for this life and eternity as they turn from their sin and place their faith in Christ alone. DESCRIPTION:The 2022 mid-terms represented a critical moment when voters were able to express the level of their concern by electing candidates who acknowledge the climate crisis and commit to action. \nThe November SOCAN general public meeting program will be devoted to exploring the results of the 2022 election and assessing how they influence local\, state\, and national efforts to address the climate crisis. In Oregon\, the Governorship and both chambers remain in the control of those concerned about the climate crisis. The view from the State Capitol will be presented by Oregon House District 5 Representative Pam Marsh while SOCAN co-facilitator Alan Journet will provide comments on local and federal possibilities. \nIn addition\, in response to frequent requests from SOCAN volunteers and program attendees for help in talking with friends and relatives who are skeptical about climate science\, we have arranged a program to do just that. Warren Kahn\, senior trainer for the More To Life international educational non-profit foundation and presenter of a two part workshop to be held in January 2023\, will introduce this special offering.

It was a tumultuous time\, too\, when struggles over civil rights\, the Vietnam War\, political assassinations and gender equity sometimes made it seem the world was coming apart. The music helped us get through it. Revisit those times with a writer who covered counterculture and music with press credentials and a backstage pass. James Pagliasotti was the first rock & roll columnist for the Denver Post\, where he covered music and counterculture from 1968-1974. He has written for Rolling Stone magazine and numerous other publications\, and is the author of three books\, including the one this presentation is drawn from.
