DESCRIPTION:Growing Veteran Agripreneurs (GVA) is a beginning farmer training program for veterans interested in pursuing small-scale agriculture. Over the course of a season\, participants are exposed to all aspects of sustainable\, small-scale farming through hands-on field experience at SOREC in Central point\, farm tours\, online classes\, and one-on-one mentoring. Topics include: production propagation\, soil management\, farm business planning\, irrigation\, drought mitigation\, tools and equipment\, integrated pest management\, marketing\, seed saving and small livestock operations. Class times vary based on tour locations and daylight hours but will be on Wednesdays starting at or after 3pm. Registration Deadline is April 28th. From age 16\, she began an extensive professional solo touring career\, which has taken her through the U.S\, Australia\, Canada\, Indonesia\, South America\, and Europe.\nShe has performed as a member of many live acts including Liberation Movement\, Freedom Tribe\, Prezident Brown\, Heavyweight Dub Champion\, Tina Malia\, Hamsalila\, Goddess Alchemy Project\, the Funginears\, Shimshai\, Signal Path\, Sasha Butterfly Band\, Everyone Orchestra\, Blane Lyon and the Real\, Jah Levi\, and others. DESCRIPTION:Over the more than a decade that Southern Oregon Climate Action Now has been engaged in grassroots climate activism\, several other local organizations have either taken on the climate crisis as an aspect of their activism or have launched themselves as climate organizations. To honor what other Rogue Valley organizations are doing\, and inform concerned Southern Oregonians about the wide range of ongoing activities in the region\, SOCAN’s May program\, again as an in-person event\, will offer a panel of short presentations summarizing the activities of: Rogue Climate\, Southern Oregon Citizens Climate Lobby\, Southern Oregon Pachamama Alliance Community\, Sustainable Rogue Valley\, the Siskiyous and Oregon Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Association\, Ashland Climate Collaborative\, KS Wild Climate Program and Sustainability at SOU. The program will include opportunities for participants to visit with representatives of these organizations to discuss their efforts.\nThe program will be on Tuesday May 30th from 6:00 – 7:30 at the Medford Public Library (205 S Central Ave\, Medford). This presentation offers an opportunity to achieve a greater understanding of this interesting and complex country. \nSherry Neuman is an infectious disease doctor whose career involved direct patient care in clinical settings with the Indian Health Service in Montana\, VA hospitals in Phoenix and Reno as well as teaching medical residents at the University of Nevada. She moved to Jacksonville in 2010 and is an active volunteer with multiple organizations. She continues to find satisfaction in using her medical training in service projects. In addition\, she is an avid traveler on both domestic and international trips.

DESCRIPTION:Porchfest is a free music festival that is taking place on the front porches of neighborhoods in small towns and large cities across the nation\, and it’s coming to Grants Pass again this summer!   \nPorchfest is a revival of a tradition from the past\, when time moved a little more slowly and folks gathered on their porches to visit with neighbors\, family\, and friends\, brought out the guitar or fiddle\, and made music together.       \nThis family-friendly\, free\, community-building event\, the first in Oregon\, started in 2017. This annual event will feature local musicians performing a variety of music genres on the front porches of historic Grants Pass homes. Porchfest occurs in the NW Washington Boulevard area of town\, with the participating streets closed down to vehicle traffic.

Explore the Hanley home and particularly note all the handmade quilts\, hooked rugs\, needlepoint\, and other items made by Hanley family members. Take a hayride and learn about the farm then and now. Decorate bonnets and hats\, learn simple embroidery\, and make a paper quilt block to add to our community paper quilt! \nDiscover the art of needlework in a way that is fun and engaging for everyone\, regardless of age\, gender\, or experience. And it is all free except for docent let house tours which are $10 for adults\, $5 for children—and 20% off for Southern Oregon Historical Society members!
