When preparing for their journey\, Mary Louisa included in their belongings a quilt\, “sent along to be a comfort and reminder of the loving friends who quilted the going away present”. The Blacks settled along the Rogue River\, near Shady Cove. Annice Black\, Mary Louisa’s great-granddaughter\, speaks about her family’s rich history and the quilt that has been in the family’s possession for 157 years.

DESCRIPTION:CC’s Core Commitments: (i.e.\, why do we exist?)\nExalt:\nThe church exists as a worshipping community that exalts the Lord. Since He chose and predestined sons unto Himself in Christ to the praise of the glory of His grace\, this Body of believers seeks to render supreme worth to Him who called us into fellowship with Himself and His people. We strive to be God-centered in what we believe and how we behave (see Eph 1; Jn 4; Rev 4\, 5\, 19\, 21-22). \nEquip:\nCentral to our gathering together is the expositional preaching and teaching of the Word\, that which is inspired\, inerrant\, authoritative\, and sufficient. Since God’s Word and His Spirit are the means God uses to adequately equip His Church for lives of godliness\, we seek to explain what God means by what He has said\, and train others to diligently study and teach the Bible (see Eph 4:11-12; 2 Tim 3:16-17; 4:2; 2 Pet 1:3-4). \nEvangelize:\nThe Church’s central mission\, which we cannot do in heaven\, is evangelize the world\, offering them hope for this life and eternity as they turn from their sin and place their faith in Christ alone. DESCRIPTION:The climate changes induced by global warming are affecting our natural world in many ways. Dr. Susan Harrison\, Department of Environmental Science and Policy\, and her team from U.C. Davis have been studying how climate change is influencing the composition of understory plant communities occupying forests along the border between Oregon and California. \nThe SOCAN October monthly general meeting scheduled for Tuesday October 25th from 6:00 – 7:00pm via ZOOM will feature Dr. Harrison outlining her research on forest understories in the Siskiyous. Harrison will discuss how complex water-temperature interactions and extreme events are impacting individual understory plant species in our dry western forests\, including how climate affects post-fire community regeneration. \nThere is no charge for joining the meeting\, but participants must register bit.ly/SOCAN-Harrison
