SUMMARY:'Pop Trompe L'oeil' by Amy Nelder
DESCRIPTION:The Grants Pass Museum of Art invites you to come see their latest exhibit! \n” I call my still life work “Pop Trompe L’oeil” – I’ve been developing my voice in this style for about 18 years. For the first thirteen years of my career\, I painted in a style I called Mythic Realism\, founded in urban landscape. One day while I was in the middle of a commission for a street scene in New York\, this image flashed through my mind out of nowhere: I pictured a painting of a cupcake and a diet coke\, in an old wooden crate\, in trompe l’oeil style. I had never had any connection to still life or high realism until that moment; it was simply an image and an urge that came over me\, and I realized I had to paint it. I felt such relief when I finally got it onto the canvas! I found myself constantly seeing and thinking about still lifes. Eventually\, it became clear it was going to remain\, so I changed my style and began capturing moments in time. I hope you enjoy the show.” Amy Nelder \nThe museum is open Tuesday – Saturday

SUMMARY:Award-Winning Filmmaker Kevin Peer Presents Evening of Films and Stories on 11/1/26
DESCRIPTION:Award-Winning Former National Geographic Filmmaker Kevin Peer Presents Evening of Films and Stories\nGRANTS PASS\, OR — Award-winning documentary filmmaker Kevin Peer will present an evening of films and behind-the-scenes stories on Sunday\, November 1\, at the Fruitdale Grange in Grants Pass\, as a fundraiser for the Williams Community Forest Project (WCFP). \nPeer spent several years as a producer\, director and cinematographer for the acclaimed National Geographic television series EXPLORER\, traveling across the United States and around the world to document stories of culture\, art and the natural world. His films have received more than 40 national and international film festival honors\, including two national Emmy nominations. \nThe evening will feature two films Kevin made for National Geographic EXPLORER\, along with his more recent film\, Pristine Waters. After each film he will answer audience questions and share stories of adventure and misadventure related to its making. \nThe Pigeon Game — Enter the colorful world of a centuries-old sport brought to New York by European immigrants in the mid-1800s. From Brooklyn rooftops\, pigeon flyers send their flocks wheeling above the city\, competing to lure one another’s birds home to their own coops. \nMasterpieces in Chalk — Experience world-renowned artist Kurt Wenner in Italy and Switzerland as he transforms a centuries-old tradition of street painting into the newly emerging art of three-dimensional pavement illusion. \nPristine Waters — Journey into Pipe Fork\, a lush riparian realm of waterfalls and forest in the Williams Valley. The film brings the evening home to Southern Oregon and to the ongoing effort to protect this ecologically significant place. \nThe event is a fundraiser for the Williams Community Forest Project (WCFP)\, a nonprofit organization working to protect the legacy forests\, clear waters\, and natural ecosystems of the Williams Valley through science-informed education\, advocacy\, and community engagement. \nDoors open at 6:00 p.m.\, with the film program running from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. \nSunday\, November 1\, 2026\nFruitdale Grange #379\n1440 Parkdale Drive\, Grants Pass\, Oregon\nDoors: 6:00 p.m.\nProgram: 6:30–8:00 p.m.\nAdmission: Suggested donation $5–$15. All proceeds support WCFP.

SUMMARY:Death Cafe Conversation\, 13+ YRS
DESCRIPTION:In a Death Cafe there’s no set agenda or speaker\, just an informal\, respectful space to share stories\, ask questions\, and discuss the sometimes difficult topic of mortality in a way that brings connection and insight. Participants often find relief and understanding\, allowing conversations about death to enrich and affirm their lives. Parental discretion is advised for attendees under 18 as the content of these discussions is mature. \nSouthern Oregon Living and Dying Alliance (SOLADA) encourages open and honest discussions about the human experience of living and dying\, and its relationship to love and grief. Our goal is to help create compassionate\, caring communities that support individuals\, families\, and organizations during the transitions that accompany the dying process. Facilitators Ellen & Hayriya will hold the space and help the conversation flow. Ellen of Beatha Doula Services is a Life Doula who helps people with the transitions of birth\, death\, and life. Hayriya is the owner of Compassionate Care of Choice. She serves as a death doula\, consultant and educator in Southern Oregon\, and the driving force behind the creation of SOLADA.
