SUMMARY:SOCAN Sips for Sustainability Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:This November\, Southern Oregon Climate Action Now (SOCAN) will mark its 12th year of passionate climate advocacy and education with “Sips for Sustainability\,“ a social and fundraising event. Unless we acknowledge and address the climate crisis\, sustainable living will not be possible. This inspiring evening brings the community together to champion climate science education and demonstrate a shared commitment to a sustainable future. \nWith live music from the Bill Scholer Band\, an array of wines\, beers and non-alcoholic beverages\, and the excitement of a mystery wine sale and eco-friendly raffle\, attendees will have the chance to connect\, reflect\, and contribute to meaningful climate action. \nAlthough the focus is on social interactions and conversation\, we will have a few short presentations. Among these will be a few encouraging words from Southern Oregon Public Broadcasting’s Keegan van Hook. Keegan is the interviewer\, narrator\, and editor of the excellent SOPBS series Energy Horizons which prominently features SOCAN cofacilitator Dr. Alan Journet. \nBy participating in “Sips for Sustainability\,” guests will directly support SOCAN’s mission to educate and empower communities with the knowledge needed to protect our planet for future generations. \n\n\n Unable to attend Sips for Sustainability? You can still contribute to our mission of climate science education! With your support\, we’re empowering our community to take meaningful climate action—thank you for making an impact!\n\n\n\n\nSuggested donation is $20. SUMMARY:Family Movie Night
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a community screening of Inside Out at Pacifica Garden. \n \nSnacks and beverages for sale onsite. \nNot familiar with the movie? Here’s the summary: \nGrowing up can be a bumpy road\, and it’s no exception for Riley\, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us\, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler)\, Fear (Bill Hader)\, Anger (Lewis Black)\, Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters\, the control center inside Riley’s mind\, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco\, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy\, Riley’s main and most important emotion\, tries to keep things positive\, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city\, house and school.

SUMMARY:Art & Activism: Felting the Pipe Fork Landscape
DESCRIPTION:Come join us for a fun and creative session of Art and Activism\, needle felting the beautiful Pipe Fork Landscape using wool! Sign up here. \nWe will meet at the Williams Grange at 11 and carpool up to Pipe Fork\, a gorgeous riparian area currently under threat of being clear-cut by Josephine County. The Williams Community Forest Project will lead a guided tour of the area\, then there will be time for personal exploration and connecting with the land\, taking photos of the features you would like to recreate in wool. \nThis in-person event is perfect for anyone looking to explore their artistic side in a relaxed and supportive environment. No prior experience with felting is necessary – Local fiber artist Corbin Brashear of Wild and Wooly Feltworks will guide you through the process step by step. \n50% of proceeds benefit KS Wild and the Williams Community Forest Project’s efforts to protect our sacred and wild local ecosystems. Please dress in layers for being outdoors in March\, and bring a folding or camp chair and a hearty lunch! Creativity makes one hungry! \nA little about Corbin: Her mixed media needlefelted sculptures\, masks\, and tapestries celebrate the whimsy and wildness of life. She finds her inspiration in the beautiful environment of the Siskiyou Mountains of Southern Oregon and Northern California\, where she has lived for the past 25 years. These mountains have profoundly shaped who she is and what she creates with her art. \nEach sculpture is created in her riverside “studio” among the alders. She walks the banks of the river or the beach daily in search of treasures such as driftwood\, kelp\, lichen and feathers\, which she weaves together with the wool\, using a felting needle to sculpt and coax the elemental spirit into form. Her artwork is created with the intention of blessing your home and your life with the peace\, energy and power of these wild and sacred places. \nFor the last 15 years she has been leading needlefelting workshops\, both locally and in Northern California\, for both adults and kids. She loves sharing this satisfying and whimsical art form with people\, helping to guide my students to connect with their own inner creativity and sense of magic.
