SUMMARY:Zero at The Stone Cold Hemp Barn
DESCRIPTION:The Stone Cold Hemp Barn welcomes back legendary band Zero to the Applegate Valley! Wednesday\, July 27th 8-11pm\, doors @ 7:30pm. All ages\, no dogs. \nPurchase tickets in advance! \nCirca 1980\, The Heart of Gold Band….at the time: Keith and Donna Godchaux\, John Kahn and Greg Anton….were looking for a guitar player. Steve Kimock showed up at a rehearsal with a Stratocaster in one hand\, a Boogie amp in the other\, and the musical chemistry was palpable halfway through the first song. Tragically\, Keith died in a car accident soon thereafter\, the band carried on for a few years\, then Greg and Steve took their musical connection into a studio and recorded the first Zero album (Absolute Zero); Steve on guitar and bass\, Greg on drums and piano. \nCurrent lineup: Steve Kimock\, Greg Anton\, Pete Sears\, Spencer Burrows & Hadi Al Saadoon   \nAfter a month in the studio\, creating what would become the core of the Zero instrumental repertoire\, Greg and Steve recruited other players and started doing Zero shows. They were joined by a host of Bay Area luminaries: Banana\, John Cipollina\, John Farey\, Martin Fierro\, Hadi Al-Saadoon\, Liam Hanrahan\, John Kahn\, Chip Roland\, Merl Saunders\, Tony Saunders\, Pete Sears\, Robin Sylvester\, Bobby Vega and others. \nAfter years of performing and recording primarily instrumental music\, in 1992 Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter came on board\, they added vocalist Judge Murphy and the Zero horizon expanded. \nNothing’s like Zero. \nHISTORY… \nMusicians who on occasion have joined Zero on stage or in the studio include Sikiru Adepoju\, Norton Buffalo\, Jack Cassidy\, Jessica Fierro\, Jerry Garcia\, Donna Godchaux\, Wavy Gravy\, Terry Haggerty\, Mickey Hart\, Nicky Hopkins\, Jerry Joseph\, Jorma Kaukonen\, John Morgan Kimock\, Miles Kimock\, Bill Kreutzmann\, Alex Ligertwood\, Buddy Miles\, Lauren Murphy\, Jeff Pevar\, Noel Redding\, Derek Trucks\, Lonnie Walters\, Vince Welnick…the list goes on. \nBesides headlining major festivals around the country\, Zero has played double bills with artists as diverse as Blood Sweat and Tears\, Ray Charles\, Kenny G.\, Sceamin Jay Hawkins\, Hot Tuna\, Dr. John\, Nicolette Larson\, Taj Mahal\, Eddie Money\, The Neville Brothers\, Stephen Stills\, The String Cheese Incident\, Alan Toussaint\, Robin Trower\, Bonnie Raitt\, Bob Weir\, Edgar Winter\, and many more.

DESCRIPTION:Porchfest is a free music festival that is taking place on the front porches of neighborhoods in small towns and large cities across the nation\, and it’s coming to Grants Pass again this summer!   \nPorchfest is a revival of a tradition from the past\, when time moved a little more slowly and folks gathered on their porches to visit with neighbors\, family\, and friends\, brought out the guitar or fiddle\, and made music together.       \nThis family-friendly\, free\, community-building event\, the first in Oregon\, started in 2017. This annual event will feature local musicians performing a variety of music genres on the front porches of historic Grants Pass homes. Porchfest occurs in the NW Washington Boulevard area of town\, with the participating streets closed down to vehicle traffic.

SUMMARY:Josephine County Food Bank – Shining a Light on Hunger
DESCRIPTION:It is with great excitement that we invite you to participate in a very special event\, our signature fundraiser\, Shining a Light on Hunger\, on June 22\, 2023\, at Weekend Beer Company. This event is an essential source of funding for the Food Bank and will feature dinner\, live music\, community awards celebrating local Hunger Heroes\, and an auction. Although it is a casual get-together\, it is also a big affair! Our goal this year is to raise $65\,000. \nThis year we are adding a new component to the fundraiser\, the Hunger Heroes Awards. We are excited to honor our community members for their contributions\, leadership\, and commitment in helping with our mission to end hunger in Josephine County and ensure equal access to healthy food for all. \nWe encourage anyone in the community to nominate any organization\, leader\, volunteer\, or group who is dedicated to bringing food security and improving the quality of life for our community. \nAt our core\, the Josephine County Food Bank is an organization by the community\, for the community. We would not be able to operate without assistance from the many donors\, volunteers\, community partners\, and more that work to end hunger for all our Josephine County residents. This is our way of acknowledging that it takes a village\, and shining a spotlight on the effort it takes to feed one out of five Josephine County residents every month. \nThese awards are open to EVERYONE in our community. From projects big to small\, we hope to receive many displays of hunger heroism throughout Josephine County. Award recipients will be independently chosen by a committee composed of community members. Nominations must be received by May 31\, 2023. Awards will be announced during the event on June 22\, 2023\, at Weekend Beer Company. \nTickets to Shining a Light on Hunger are $30 and can be purchased on our website\, www.jocofoodbank.org. Hunger Hero nominations can also be submitted on our website. \n#### \nThe Josephine County Food Bank\, working through its network of 12 pantries\, 3 community kitchens\, and 11 partner agencies\, helps to feed more than 15\,000 people throughout the county each month. JCFB distributes more than two million pounds of food every year. Dedicated volunteers\, a small staff\, generous community partners\, individual donors\, and larger programs like the Oregon Food Bank and Feeding America work together to make this possible.
