DESCRIPTION:Despite holding a bare minimum of control in both chambers\, during the last Congress Democrats managed to pass the Inflation Reduction Act\, the most ambitious legislation targeting the climate crisis ever signed into law.  However\, as we enter a two-year period with Republican climate deniers in charge of the House\, we now face the question of how we can continue and expand upon this climate action at the federal level. DESCRIPTION:Featured speakers: Flavia Franco of Southern Oregon Food Solutions\, Jeanette Hardison of the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition\, and Ellie Cosgrove of Rogue Valley Farm 2 School\nIn 2022\, the U.S. department of Agriculture stated: “Food loss and waste … exacerbates the climate change crisis with its significant GHG footprint. Production\, transportation\, and handling of food generate significant carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions\, and when food ends up in landfills\, it generates methane\, [which is] an even more potent greenhouse gas.” \nA 2021 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency report concluded that “each year\, U.S. food loss and waste embodies 170 million metric tons of carbon dioxide greenhouse gas emissions– equal to the annual CO2 emissions of 42 coal-fired power plants.” This doesn’t even take landfill methane into account. \nTo learn more about food waste and what we can do to address it\, join Southern Oregon Climate Action Now (SOCAN) at their March 28th General Meeting online from 6:00 to 7:00pm. DESCRIPTION:The April SOCAN General meeting – our first in-person meeting since the COVID crisis – will feature members of the SOCAN Federal and State project team reporting on which proposals are alive\, which are not\, and what climate conscious Oregonians can do to help those proposals that deserve our support. \nAfter a hard-fought race for Governor in 2022\, and a campaign in which she highlighted support for climate action\, Tina Kotek was triumphant against two candidates who both campaigned against climate action. Although the climate crisis is non-partisan\, the Democratic Party as a whole embraced climate action while the opposition campaigned against it. The 2023 Legislative session in Salem reflects this dichotomy. By late April\, we will know which proposals have a chance for passage and which have none; we will know by this meeting which proposals are moving and could use rural Oregonian help\, and which are not.

SUMMARY:Beginning Farmer Training for Veterans
DESCRIPTION:Growing Veteran Agripreneurs (GVA) is a beginning farmer training program for veterans interested in pursuing small-scale agriculture. Over the course of a season\, participants are exposed to all aspects of sustainable\, small-scale farming through hands-on field experience at SOREC in Central point\, farm tours\, online classes\, and one-on-one mentoring. Topics include: production propagation\, soil management\, farm business planning\, irrigation\, drought mitigation\, tools and equipment\, integrated pest management\, marketing\, seed saving and small livestock operations. Class times vary based on tour locations and daylight hours but will be on Wednesdays starting at or after 3pm. Registration Deadline is April 28th. DESCRIPTION:Anyone spending time in the dryer forests of Southern Oregon will have seen the splashes of orange among the healthy green backdrop.  These splashes of color portend our future; they represent Douglas firs that are expiring.  As the trees die\, the needles lose the healthy green chlorophyl that drives photosynthesis and produce the familiar orange splashes that increasingly dot the skyline of our hills. \nRetired Southern Oregon OSU Extension forester Max Bennett has been studying this phenomenon for some years. Bennett will provide an account of his findings and conclusions during the next Southern Oregon Climate Action Now monthly open public meeting.  The program will occur on Tuesday August 29th at 6:00 pm at the Medford Public Library. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Core competencies include supplemental and continuing education that directly relates to or expands upon the ICF Core Competencies\, while resource development contributes to a coach’s professional development\, business building\, and other materials that fall outside of CCE core competencies. As per ICF guidelines\, every coach has to renew their credential every three years and should receive at least 32 ICF CCE hours of training from an approved training institute only.   \n ICF CCE hours are completely different from ACTP and ACSTH paths\, in terms of its requirement and process. CCE is mostly used for renewing credentials\, and you have the flexibility to apply for ACC (Associated Certified Coach)\, PCC (Professional Certified Coach)\, and MCC (Master Certified Coach)\, depending upon coaching experience. Powerhouse Coaching provides mastery CCE program to ACC and PCC coaches who need required education hours\, seek to reactivate their credentials or refresh their skills. The highly educational three-month coaching mastery CCE program delivers 32 ICF CCE hours\, which include 30 core and 02 resource hours. This time\, we’re headed to the historic gold mining town of Jacksonville in Jackson County’s Applegate Valley. \nLed by OBP Public Programs Manager Mariah Rocker\, this two-hour\, 1-mile loop will make stops at locations connected to the town’s Black history. The tour will begin at the Jacksonville Cemetery before moving to the Jackson Creek Junction Gazebo. Vehicle transport is encouraged to avoid walking up and down the steep cemetery road. The rest of the tour\, starting at Jackson Creek Junction Gazebo\, will be on foot. \nGuests will discover more about pioneers Ben Johnson\, Charles Blockwell\, Sam Vose\, and other members of one of the first Black communities in the state.

DESCRIPTION:Continuing coach education (CCE) for International Coaching Federation’s (ICF) credentialed coaches is intended to provide supplemental and continuing education for those wishing to acquire new learning\, professional development\, and renewing their ICF credentials. ICF CCE hours allow mentee coaches to get CCE units for ICF core competencies\, and resource development. Accumulated ICF CCE hours can be used to achieve credentials for ACC (Associate Certified Coach)\, PCC (Professional Certified Coach)\, and MCC (Master Coach). All these credentials need to be renewed every three years\, and generally CCE hours are preferred by coaches to renew their credentials. You can also attend different advanced modules and use those continuing coach education hours into your PCC or MCC credentials.   \nThe highly educational three-month continuing coach education program by Powerhouse Coaching delivers 30 core and 2 resource hours\, which consist of coach instructions\, mentoring\, skill-building exercises\, and peer coaching with live feedback. The course is designed to help coaches achieve PCC level proficiency and coaching presence\, improve listening both internally and externally\, and understand the difference between ACC\, PCC\, and MCC levels. The continuing coach education program by Powerhouse Coaching is meant for ACC and PCC coaches who are interested to uplevel or refresh their coaching competence.    \n32 ICF CCE hours are divided into 18 Synchronous Hours\, and 14 Asynchronous Hours    \n18 Synchronous Hours: Delivered virtually via Zoom\, these synchronous hours are delivered in English\, and are super-focused on understanding\, embodying\, and practicing eight ICF core competencies. Sessions are held at the same time each week consecutively\, and include a combination of instructions\, facilitated discussions\, coaching practice\, and live feedback.    \n14 Asynchronous Hours: These ICF CCE hours include a combination of coaching\, self-assessment\, and journaling. Students create a community and share their findings via online classroom discussion forums. They are paired with a buddy for support\, practice\, and discussion outside of class. Each session of continuing coach education will be of 90 minutes’ duration\, and delivered in English.    \n32 hours for continuing coach education are completed in 12 weeks\, and class size is limited to 6 to 10 participants only.
